Here is a Literacy challenge that we would like you to complete by Friday 15th May and put up on Tapestry for us to see!

We would like you to read and then use some High Frequency Words (we also call them ‘tricky words’) to write sentences.

Children: First read these tricky words. the, not, I, go, no, into.

Remember that they don’t always sound like they look! Then when you are ready to write your sentences, remember that

• a sentence always begins with a capital letter.

• Use finger spaces in between each word.

• End your sentence with a full stop.

As an extra challenge, we are attaching a High Frequency Word mat so that, if you want to, you can have a go at reading all the words on the sheet! If there are some that you are not sure of, ask someone at home to help you or to give you a clue.

Adults: please encourage your children to read the words provided on their own. If they are struggling, an additional activity could be to go on a tricky word hunt in the house or garden! 

Once your child is confident of these six words, your child should then try and write a sentence containing each one. You could do this in chalk outside, with pencil or pen on paper, on a whiteboard or whatever writing materials you may have that come easily to hand. You might need to support your child by suggesting some ideas for their sentences. 

Here are some examples:

Pat the dog. 

Hop on the path.

It is not hot.

I am sleeping.

Can I go to the shop?

I have a red hat.

I go to the shop.

Me and mum go to the shop.

I put the pegs into the box.
